Prof Richard Mackay is the founder and ‘Director of Possibilities’ at Mackay Strategic. A longstanding Member of Australia ICOMOS, Richard has worked in cultural heritage management for more than 30 years. He was a founding partner of GML Heritage.
Richard is the Convenor of the 21st ICOMOS global General Assembly and Scientific Symposium which will be hosted in Sydney in 2023 (GA2023). He is an ICOMOS World Heritage advisor and past Chair of the Australian World Heritage Advisory Committee. He was responsible for the heritage theme of the 2011 and 2016 State of the Environment reports. Richard is a former member of the Australia ICOMOS Executive Committee and Burra Charter Working Party, Non-executive Director of the National Trust (NSW), Member of the NSW Heritage Council and Chair of the NSW State Heritage Register Committee.
Richard was the inaugural winner of the Australian Heritage Council ‘Sharon Sullivan Award’ for his contribution to Australia’s national heritage. In 2003 he was made a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for services to archaeology and cultural heritage.
