Director of the heritage team at City Plan since April 2007, Kerime joined City Plan in 2001. She is trained as an architect and heritage consultant with over 30 years’ experience in both heritage conservation and architecture. In 2002, Kerime completed a Masters in Heritage Conservation at the University of Sydney. Her Masters dissertation was on the history and conservation of corner shops, her case study was the Canterbury area. Kerime has extensive experience in conservation and heritage management projects. Her experience includes 15 years of architectural practice and project management in the Turkish Republic.
Kerime has been an active member of the Institute of Architects Heritage Committee since 2002 and was a member of the working parties for the Heritage Council publications Design in Context and New Uses for Heritage Places. She has also worked with the subcommittee in the preparation of the third publication in the series for Alterations and Additions Guidelines.
Kerime’s architectural and design skills add to the range of expertise at City Plan Heritage. In her role as Heritage Consultant, Kerime is often involved from the initial design stage of projects. Her expertise aids in the resolution of heritage issues through all stages of design, approval and construction. She has demonstrated management skills in multi-disciplinary projects. Kerime is responsible for the preparation of Heritage Impact Statements, Heritage Assessments, Conservation Management documents, Interpretation Strategies, and supervision of Conservation Works, as well as schedules of conservation works, long term maintenance plans and archival recordings. She also has considerable experience in the preparation and data entry of Heritage Inventories (SHI), including Burwood Heritage Inventory, Canterbury Heritage Inventory and RailCorp Metro West Region s170 Inventory. She has recently managed and completed the City of Sydney Industrial and Warehouse Buildings Heritage Study, which is believed to be the first of its kind for New South Wales, and the second of its kind for Australia.
Kerime’s key project experiences include the East Darling Harbour (Barangaroo) Redevelopment; various projects for City of Sydney including the Glebe Foreshore project; Gateway projects for Broadway and Darlinghurst Road-Kings Cross, and conservation architect services for Bellevue Cottage and Victoria Park Gardeners Lodge; and regular consultancy services to Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, RailCorp, Centennial Parklands and Roads and Maritime Services, Land and Housing Corporation, and Government Property NSW. She also undertook independent assessments / peer reviews for Randwick, Woollahra, Marrickville, Strathfield and Wahroonga Councils.
Kerime has been a member of the Australia ICOMOS since November 2007 and has served on the Executive Committee for the last 5 years. Prior to being elected as President, she contributed to Australia ICOMOS as the NSW Representative (2 years) and Secretary (2 years). Kerime is committed to achieving Australia ICOMOS’ goals through devoting her knowledge and expertise in application of best heritage practice and conservation philosophy both nationally and internationally. In addition to her various roles in the organisation’s working groups, she was the convenor of the 2015 ICOMOS Pasifika conservation workshop held in Levuka, Fiji
