Australia ICOMOS Webinar Series

As part of Australia ICOMOS’ commitment to our members, in 2021 a new webinar series has been launched.

As a national organisation, these webinars will enable us to share, engage and interact with our members and friends across the country. These webinars will provide an opportunity for you to tell us about your project, experiences or area of interest.

Suggestions for topics, to host a webinar or provide a presentation are welcome at any time. Please email the Secretariat with your submission.

Webinar 1 – 26 May 2021
Intangible Cultural Heritage and Communities: how can ICH strengthen the role of communities in managing their heritage?

How can communities shape and strengthen their role in heritage? What tools or practices would assist in encouraging involvement? The Australia ICOMOS National Scientific Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage (NSC-ICH) hosted the inaugural webinar on 26 May 2021.

The focus of this session was to explore Australian and international experiences, projects and case studies that demonstrated community involvement in ICH. What worked well? What were the challenges? What tools assisted in the identification, conservation or management of ICH by communities? Over 50 attendees heard our three speakers, Freya Keam, Catherine McLay and Yawen Xu provide interesting and thoughtful presentations, which elicited great questions from the attendees. NSC-ICH extends its thanks to the presenters and to Chris Johnson for hosting.
