Jim Kerr Address & AICOMOS AGM | Canberra – ANU | 4-5.30 pm 20 November 2026

Associate Professor Yujie Zhue, Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies will present this year’s address.

An anthropologist and critical heritage scholar, Yujie’s research explores how heritage, memory, place and identity are produced and transformed across communities and borders.

Heritage in Motion: Rethinking Place, Identity and the Future of Heritage

A central premise of heritage conservation is to understand place: its histories, meanings, associations and cultural significance. At a moment when Australia ICOMOS is reflecting on fifty years of practice and the continuing influence of the Burra Charter, this Address asks a simple question: how can heritage conserve place without fixing culture in place?

The AGM will follow the Jim Kerr Address at 6pm, booking not required for the AGM

Jim Kerr Address Bookings can be made here.

Further information about the event can be found here

Address: Sir Roland Wilson Theatre, Roland Wilson Building (#120), Theatrette Rm 2.02

Australian National University

120 McCoy Circuit, ANU

Please note this is an in-person event. The Address will be recorded and made available at a later date.

Young and Emerging Bursary

Our Young and Emerging Professionals Working Group sponsored three emerging members via a bursary of $2,000 each to attend the GA in Kuching.

Charlotte Schaller, Chloe Trask, and Yilun Zhe, pictured below with Emma Moore our YEP coordinator.

Bursary recipient Chloe Trask:

I wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to Australia ICOMOS for supporting my attendance at the 2026 ICOMOS General Assembly in Kuching through the Young and Emerging Professionals bursary.

What an incredible experience! I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend, learn from some of the world’s leading heritage professionals and meet so many wonderful people along the way.

Beyond the presentations and workshops, it was the conversations, shared experiences and connections that made the week particularly special. I’ve come away with so much to think about, a greater appreciation of the international heritage community and even more enthusiasm for the profession I’m working towards.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and for the support Australia ICOMOS provides to emerging professionals. I hope to build on the connections I’ve made and become more actively involved in the years ahead.

Thank you again for making this experience possible!

Further information about activities and outcomes from the GA will be sent to all members shortly.
