Australia ICOMOS 2025 Jim Kerr Address | 11 September 2025 | Review by Michelle Bashta
The Annual Australia ICOMOS Jim Kerr Address was held in Melbourne for the first time on September 11. Presented by representatives from the Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, the address reflected on the management of Budj Bim post the listing of the cultural landscape on the World Heritage List. The sold out audience heard from World Heritage Executive Officer Troy Lovett and World Heritage Rangers Aaron Morgan and Jakobe Walker as they discussed Caring for Country with both Traditional and contemporary methods to ensure the conservation and longevity of this exceptional landscape. Following the address a panel discussion was also hosted by Alix Hill from Storey and Ward. (Images: Felicity Watson & Rebecca Davies)
The organisers would like to thank the Gundijt Mirring representatives for their time and generous sharing of their cultural knowledge and the sponsors – the Heritage Council of Victoria, GML Heritage, Extent, Lovell Chen, Conservation Studio and Storey & Ward – for their support of the event. A big thank you also to venue partner and sponsor ACAHUCH (University of Melbourne).
We look forward to continuing to build on the relationship with the rangers and GMTAOC with the potential for an On Country visit to Budj Bim for ICOMOS members also in the works.

Reconciliation Australia announces new truth telling resources hub
Reconciliation Australia is proud to announce that the new community truth-telling resources hub is now live!
Truth-telling encompasses a range of activities, initiatives and processes that enable a fuller and more accurate account of Australia’s history, an account that recognises the strength and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Developed through our Community Truth-telling Pathways program, these resources aim to promote practices that respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures and are informed by research, case studies, partnerships and other knowledge sharing opportunities undertaken with communities involved in local truth-telling processes.
These initial fact sheets and guides will support you to develop your foundational understanding of these processes by answering questions such as: What is truth-telling? What can it look like in practice? How can non-Indigenous people engage appropriately?
