NEW EOI for Membership of the Caring for Country Workshop Organising Committee | Closes 18 February 2023
We are calling for further members or affiliate members for our Organising Committee for a Workshop titled Caring for Country: Indigenous Voices on Culture, Heritage and the Climate Crisis. This workshop will be held as a side event to GA2023 on Saturday 2nd September 2023.
This day-long workshop will highlight that Indigenous peoples are on the frontline of a climate crisis they did not create, which threatens cultural identity and magnifies longstanding issues of territory and appropriation. It will be a space for Indigenous voices on cultural heritage as a human right. The workshop will aim to give Indigenous participants a voice, to inform National, regional and international policy and action, and to focus attention on cultural impacts and where there is a lack of effective action in response to climate change.
We will also draw from the findings and outcomes of the Caring For Country Webinar Series and the ‘Ignite Pacific’: Climate change, culture and peace in the Pacific region panel session in the ICCROM Climate Culture Peace Conference, 2022.
The workshop will fine-tune a Resolution to be endorsed by ICOMOS Advisory Committee at GA2023 which follows this workshop. Depending on the outcomes of the workshop we may also draft a Declaration to go to the Australian Government and relevant governments in the Pacific region.
If you would like to join us in helping to organise this exciting workshop, please fill out the attached EOI Form and email it to the Co-Coordinators of the Caring For Country Committee, Helen Wilson and Kerime Danis by the 18th February 2023.
