Australia ICOMOS is currently updating our records regarding Australian members on International Scientific Committees. If you are a member or pending member of an ISC, please complete the attached form and email to georgia.meros@deakin.edu.au with a copy to janea@ainsworthheritage.com.au ASAP.

2) REMINDER: International Scientific Committees – call for Voting Members

 

In accordance with the ICOMOS statutes, Australia ICOMOS is required to designate a “Voting Member” for each ISC which has Australian representatives. The voting member remains current for the 3 year period between General Assemblies.

 

The voting member only votes on matters of the ISC statutes and ISC committee members – all other matters are voted on by all ISC members for each ISC.

 

Australia ICOMOS is required to designate a voting member for the following committee’s (NB: If you are the only Australian representative on an ISC, you are automatically designated as the Australian Voting Member):

You are invited to inspect works by the National Trust at these two historic cottages

The 1903 Lockup Keeper’s Quarters and 1910 Sergeant’s Quarters associated with the York Courthouse Complex are now showpieces for the sustainable use of heritage buildings.

Necessary conservation works to 5 & 7 Lowe Street provided an opportunity to make a positive environmental benefit while preserving the valued characteristics of the places. The sensitive retrofitting of these heritage buildings demonstrates how heritage buildings can be upgraded to meet current standards and can accommodate new technology providing energy efficiency and water resource savings.

Please join the National Trust in conjunction with Australia ICOMOS at 5 & 7 Lowe Street, York where Kelly Rippingale (Architect), Ray Adams (Thermal Performance Assessor) and Phil Palmer (Landscape Architect) will discuss the project. 8) University of Canberra – Heritage Conservation Summer Schools

 

The University of Canberra is pleased to announce that Australia’s leading heritage conservation professional development programme is now approaching its twentieth year. The programme is based on two intensive summer schools:

 

§  The Conservation of Traditional Buildings (12 days)

§  Cultural Heritage Management (7 days).

 

The schools are held in January each year with the topics alternating. Next year will be Cultural Heritage Management (17–23 January 2010), and The Conservation of Traditional Buildings will be in January 2011.

SENIOR ARCHAEOLOGIST

We are presently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced archaeologist to fill a permanent full-time or contract based position. The successful person will have significant experience in managing and undertaking large-scale cultural heritage surveys and associated mitigation works including excavation and basic artefact analysis. Importantly, the successful applicant will require substantial proven experience in successfully working with Traditional Owners in conjunction with well developed negotiation, consultation and report writing skills. Experience with the application of the Queensland Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 would be an advantage.
