1) Australia ICOMOS Update
New EC and Secretariat Officer
The final meeting of the outgoing Executive
Committee (EC) was held in Sydney last weekend, in conjunction with the
Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the first meeting of the new
Executive.
We said farewell to retiring EC members Caitlin
Allen, Alan Croker, Kelly Rippingale, Lori Sciusco and Anita Smith, and
welcomed newly elected members Catherine Brouwer, Anita Krivickas, Graeme
Wiffen and Helen Wilson. They will join continuing members David
Bridgman, Anthony Coupe, Jane Harrington, Timothy Hubbard, Sue
Jackson-Stepowski, Agnieshka Kiera, Helen Lardner, Sue McIntyre-Tamwoy,
Leah McKenzie, Peter Phillips and Liz Vines.
The Executive decided to award Honorary Membership of Australia ICOMOS to
Duncan Marshall, a decision announced to great acclaim at the
AGM.
The World Heritage seminar in the Opera House
attracted over 60 members and was very well received. We are planning to
run the seminar again in Melbourne next year, and hopefully other cities
as well. We thank all those who planned the seminar and presented and
prepared material for it: Caitlin Allen, Kristal Buckley, Anita Smith,
Leah McKenzie, Marilyn Truscott, Duncan Marshall and Joan
Domicelj.
The Annual General Meeting passed a unanimous vote of
thanks and appreciation to Nola Miles, our Secretariat Officer, who will
be leaving on 7 December. I want to add my own acknowledgement and thanks
for the wonderful job Nola has done, and to wish her all the very best
for the future.
The printed Annual Report was distributed at the
Annual General Meeting, and a limited number of copies will be available
from the Secretariat. The report from the International Scientific
Committee on Cultural Tourism was inadvertently omitted from the printed
report, but has now been added to the electronic version that will
shortly be available on the web site.
At the first meeting of the new Executive, the
officer bearers elected for the coming year were Peter Phillips
(President), Helen Lardner (Vice-President), Sue Jackson-Stepowski
(Secretary) and Anita Krivickas (Treasurer). The Committee also decided
to co-opt two additional members: Megan McDougall, who will be
responsible for liaison with the Secretariat Officer, and Sarah-Jane
Brazil, who will coordinate the updating of the Australia ICOMOS web
site. The full committee list will appear on the web site
shortly.
New Secretariat Officer
I am delighted to announce that Ms Georgia Meros has
been appointed from a strong field of candidates to be the new
Secretariat Officer. My thanks to Helen Lardner and her team for managing
the selection process. Please bear with us during the transition
period.
Peter Phillips
