Helen is the director of HLCD Pty Ltd, an award-winning and innovative heritage architecture consultancy in Melbourne. Helen is passionate about enriching our environment with good design that values the past and enjoys working with others from a variety of professions.

A registered architect, Helen undertook a Masters of Architecture in Conservation. With over 25 years’ experience, Helen is highly respected nationally and overseas. She was on the Australian Heritage Council and completed a six-year term on the Victorian Heritage Council. She is currently Chair of the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority Conservation Advisory Committee, a member of the Victorian Design Review Panel and a sessional member of Planning Panels Victoria. In recent years, Helen has undertaken evaluations of new development within World Heritage places for ICOMOS, and provided expert advice on nominations for the World Heritage List.

Helen is a strong advocate for the sensitive reuse of industrial places and for valuing twentieth century design. She enjoys writing and speaking about innovative examples to inspire others and working in multi-disciplinary teams to create exciting futures for places with heritage values.

In 2008 and 2009, Helen was Vice President of Australia ICOMOS and Membership Secretary for the two years prior. She was a member of the conference committee for a few conferences, most recently ‘Outback and Beyond’, Broken Hill 2010. Helen enjoyed the Australia ICOMOS Executive Committee so much, she is back for another turn!
