John Wadsley is a planning, heritage and consultation practitioner in Tasmania. He is a Certified Practising Planner and a Member of the Planning Institute of Australia as well as Australia ICOMOS. He established his own consultancy practice in January 2007. He has managed and prepared a wide range of planning and heritage studies, conservation plans, environmental impact assessments and community consultation projects for government, councils and private clients. He have a long-standing interest with Australian military history and the heritage of the Defence Estate. To that end he is Senior Vice President of the Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue Inc., dedicated to restoring and interpreting the largest war memorial in Tasmania. He is also Deputy Chairperson of the Military Heritage Foundation of Tasmania, which supports the Military Museum of Tasmania at Anglesea Barracks in Hobart, the oldest continually operating military facility in Australia and arguably one of the most significant heritage precincts in Tasmania. As an adjunct to his professional work in heritage management, John is also a freelance writer on Tasmanian and military history. His work has been published in a number of magazines and newspapers and he co-authored the official bicentennial history of Anglesea Barracks to coincide with its 200th Anniversary in December 2011.
